The largest coal producer in European Union plans to increase output of this fuel by 10% in next few years, in order to replace part of import, Bloomberg reports with reference to Polish government.

Coal production volumes fell by 7% to 53 million ton last year. Poland plans to raise output by 5-6 million tons by the middle of next decade.

Import of raw material, mostly from Russia, will rise to record level of 17 million tons this year from 13,3 million last year. Import of coal is still important for the county, however, its volumes worry leaders of Poland.

Poland will continue its way to transfer to renewable sources of energy, however, it is impossible to refuse from using the coal, which is the reliable source of energy, now.

According to country’s plan, coal share in energy mix will be reduced from current 80% to 50% by 2040. In opinion of country's leaders, private investors will play an important role in increasing coal output.
