Consumer inflation in Turkey has been rising for six months already and reached the highest level in 15 years, Bloomberg reports. In September inflation was 24,5%. This is higher than average forecast of Bloomberg’s economists, which was 21,1%.

Consumer inflation in Turkey has been rising for six months already and reached the highest level in 15 years, Bloomberg reports.

In September inflation was 24,5%. This is higher than average forecast of Bloomberg’s economists, which was 21,1%. Monthly increase accounts for 6,3%.

Last month central bank raised borrowing costs to the highest level in almost two decades, however, prices continue to grow with the fastest pace since 2003.

Experts predict possible further worsening of the situation. Lira already lost 40% of its value since the beginning of this year. After inflation information Turkish currency lost additional 1,2% and traded at 6,0950 per dollar.

Food prices grew by 27,7% compared with last year, while energy price gained 27,03%. Producers’ prices increased by 46,15%.
