Deutsche Bank considers theoretical scenario of merger with UBS, Reuters reports with the reference to German edition Handelsblatt.
This scenario, as well as potential merger with Commerzbank, was discussed during last strategic meeting of the bank.
On paper merger with UBS looks more organic, than deal with Commerzbank, as Deutsche Bank and Swiss lender better complement each other in areas of investment banking and wealth management.
Meanwhile, leaders of Commerzbank and Deutsche Bank are more than open to merger. German government that owns 15% of Commerzbank supports merger speculation, as it thinks that the country needs strong bank that would support export.
In case of merger with UBS, Deutsche would be a junior partner, and position of government in this case is unclear.
