Sales increased by 1,5% compared with May, when they declined by 1,7%. Yearly growth was 1,8% while estimate was 1,7%. Sales gains in department stores and supermarkets were 1,5%.
Retail sales recovered after weak first quarter. However, less impressive growth of wage suggests that Japanese buyers could spend even more. It means that further development of Japanese economy still depends on export. And this is at the time when the US considers imposing tariffs on import of cars.
The main gains were attributed to fuel, food, beverages, medicine, air-conditioners. Demand from inbound tourists is also high.
