Trading division of Sinopec purchased 16 million barrels of American oil to deliver in June. It is the biggest amount in the history of the company.
China promised to buy more goods from the US to reduce trade deficit and prevent trade war between two largest economies in the world. Energy and commodities are on the top of Washington list.
The purchase will amount to $1,1 billion in current prices and represent significant increase in China import from the US.
US is ready to supply more oil but encountered with infrastructure limitations.
The record quantity of oil amounted to 2,6 barrels per day was exported from the US on the week ending May 11. Today only one terminal in the US is capable of serving large oil tankers. China also prefers heavier oil, while the US exports light oil.
