Number of international students entering US colleges and Universities falls second year in a row, Reuters writes. This is a result of administration’s efforts to restrict limits of international students in the US.

New enrollments for 2017-2018 academic year declined by 6,6%, while in 2016-2017 it fell by 3,3%.

Among factors that lead to reductions are changes in policy for visa issuance and immigration rules. Besides, strengthening dollar made US colleges more expensive compared with universities in Canada and Europe, which are competing for students.

Meanwhile, international students are the main source of funding for US universities, as they often pay full tuition.

As well as last years, about 56% of foreign students come from China, India and South Korea.

President Trump also limited issuance of skilled-worker visas and permanent residence permits that international students could apply for after graduation.
